Crawfish Fest 2010 is just around the corner!

It's that time of year again!

So what's Crawfish Fest? As I wrote last year...Since I've moved to New York, this is something I look forward to each year. It's like a mini-Jazz Fest, filled with great musicians and bands from Louisiana, not to mention all the restaurants from back home that make the trek up to serve their gumbo, boudin, etoufee, jambalaya, fried alligator, pralines...I could on and on and on...and, oh yeah, thousands of pounds of succulent BOILED CRAWFISH!

The festival was started by a Louisiana native named Michael Arnone as an annual crawfish boil in New Jersey for his family and a few friends, and has since grown into this huge celebration of Louisiana food and music. If you're interested in going, there are buses that run from Port Authority of the festival and back each day. For further info, visit the festival's website and/or its Facebook page. And here's a video that gives a glimpse of what it's all about...

See y'all there!

Look for the Threadhead krewe and tell 'em Delta sent you! They're a group who travels to Jazzfest every year and is involved with Threadhead Records. Check that out too if you haven't already.

Hey, Cajun Boy (and Delta - I didn't know you read CB too!) -

Longtime reader (from the good ol' Defamer daze - my handle on there is "SugartitsMcFirecrotch), first-time commenter on your blog . . . I'm also known as Zydekitten, and am one of the Threadheads from NOLA that Delta mentioned - that's very cool that you posted this and have been enjoying CFF (if only I'd known, I'd have searched you out up there)!

My better half and I have been going the past few years but can't be there this year (getting married next weekend).

We know Michael and Katy (who helps advise Michael with the music booking) . . . have some N.J. mudbug fun for me (while we descend into oily madness down here) and tell them Hello from Da Kitten!

I might be interested in this if it didn't seem like such a rip off. From what I can tell on the website, you have to pay an expensive cover in order to get in, once you get in you have all kinds of crafts and foods available to you but they're all probably going to be along the same lines as any overpriced carnival food you'd get at a county fair or sporting event just with a cajun theme, and you don't even get free access to the music performances unless you get an extra special ticket that costs more. Other places have covers, but you get something out of it. In clubs you get the music, at the Renaissance Festival I go to every year you get to see performers of all kinds throughout the festival, at wine festivals you get free tastings and usually free musical performances. Hell, there's even a little bit of free swag at comic book conventions, plus the panels you can attend and the artists that are willing to sign things for free, and as an added bonus you get to see all the cosplay costumes and stuff, though I know that's not actually connected to the con. But as far as I can tell, all I'd be getting for my $35-40 at your crawfish fest is entry into the event. Not good enough.

I went last year and your admission covers all the bands that play, all entertainment and you can even go check out the horses/animals in the pens, as the fest is held at fairgrounds. Food is extra, but not crazy overpriced. Drinks are normal and you can bring in bottles of water. The crafts are nothing special, but if you want to buy them you can. The whole point of going is for the great music, the amazing food and the fun atmosphere. If you're not down to just have a gay ol' time, you probably shouldn't go.

But if you do, say hi cause my ass'll be there again this year!

@Hmmm- Yea, see I wasn't getting that from their website. Looking at the ticket prices, they specify that one of the camping passes or the VIP thing or something lets you see all the performances. I don't see why they would specify that unless it was special, therefore I couldn't see what I'd be getting for my money if I paid just the base $35-40 to get in. Thank you for letting me know.
