Dear Anonymous, FWIW, please know that beads and floats in New Orleans are hardly limited to Carnival time. Also, please know that the N.O. metro area has three parades to celebrate St. Patty's day.
Whoa...spooky. I pass by Six Flags all the time and wonder what the hell it looks like in there. I've decided that abandoned amusements parks are among the most depressing places on Earth. They just highlight all the fun that people are NOT having. Thanks for this post.
the photos are creepy, as anything once-loved can be. but the details make clear that six flags was losing money and trying to back out before katrina, leaving me to believe that this kind of manufactured, and often expensive entertainment isn't sustainable no matter who takes on the property and runs it.
how many times can the same kind of business fail at the same location before a community decides to do something different with the land, like simply keep it as open, recreational space? this is sadly emblematic of other crumbling, failed ventures that dot our landscape.
I was just there (big holla to the crew at Parasol's) and had to drive by this on the way to my Dad's place.
My understanding is that Nickelodeon's going in there and taking over the place. I hear that from my friends who work in the planning division and from a number of architects in town. Wether or notthat will come to pass, is another story though.
