Texas Governor Rick Perry is tired of those damn Washington tyrants and wants to succeed (or secede) from the union or something
This is just retarded...
I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state. That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the guy who was President of the United States for the past 8 years a Republican and a former governor of Texas? Has that commie-Muslim Obama already swooped in with his army of Godless, cock-sucking, gay faggots to take away all the BBQ and guns and NASCAR bumper stickers in the great state of Texas? Boy those negroes sure are fast! No wonder they're so angry down there! Here's Perry's insane press conference where he puffs up his chest and dares the queer stormtroopers to cross the line in his little sandbox...
You know what...fuck Texas! Let them have their own country so all of the wingnuts, the same ones forcing Homeland Security to issue domestic terrorism warnings, can move there and create a Jesus and gun-filled utopia.

Texas is our Quebec. Seriously.
Ever watch The Man with the Golden Gun? Remember that fat obnoxious Texas in there for comic relief? That's essentially how the world views us. Texas, big trucks, big hats, big guns, fuck everyone else 'cause we're Texas!
Seriously, just let Mexico have them.
Hopefully an announcement will be made (prolly thru twitter) that Texas will be seceding from the union so I can get out.
At least our Guv will be teabagged tomorrow :-)
Secede?
Amen, Cajun Boy, Amen...
@anon..the use of "succeed" was meant to be a joke. But since some aren't getting it, I went ahead and amended the post's title.
Christ. Someone always has to bring up either a) Texas Secession, or b) the Five State Solution. Really, for El Pasoans the latter is looking pretty damn good. It's not like we'd ever see any of that stimulus money anyway...sigh...
To Rick Perry, neither Austin or El Paso want anything to do with your dumb ass. Please move to Dallas where all the nouveau riche bubbas like you belong. I'm sure Dubya knows of a nice McMansion in his neighborhood where you can retire. More than half of Texas feels the same way, apparently, because Perry got less than 40% of the vote in a six way race, barely scraping by the Democratic candidate and getting less than the total of the other four independent candidates.
Most Texans are furious about this, because most Texans realize that we need our social services because most Texans live at or below the poverty line.
Yes it's disgusting to see the Right use the liberty argument when it's convenient (they certainly didn't care about that shit when Guantanamo was opened), but Cajun Boy, I love you hon, I must remind you that not everyone here eats that sour pudding and SOME people have the same stereotypes of Louisiana and think Louisiana natives are small-minded people.
There are small-minded people all over the US, from New York to California, and as a liberal I don't look down on every Texan because of Perry or every Louisiana native thanks to Bobby Jindal. Nor would I ever ask someone to pollute your native state with an influx of the nation's bubbas.
Bless your heart, I know you're angry, but don't send 'em this way.
This comment is dedicated to Ann Richards.
Wait, for real?
I mean I know this would never actually happen, but seriously, I think California and Texas should both secede and then wage war on eachother.
As a native Texan with family still there AND in Louisana (but now lives in NYC), I have to say, well said, Jenni B. Although, thank God I don't live in Dallas anymore - didn't quite fit in with the nouveau riche.
Alaska already passed a House Resolution 9 that is tantamount to declaring secession (this month). Check it out. I wrote my Senator and told him it's unpatriotic and that he could count on me to donate to his opponent next time he's up for re-election (he's one of the Alaskan craziest of the crazies).
Pretty effing insane from the number one pork state in the US. Effing hypocrites here in Alaska.
The Palin craziness is driving all of these nutters wanting to sit in the White House to all sorts of insane one-upsmanship.
As someone who grew up in south LA, and came to Texas kicking and screaming (hubby's job), I grew to love it here. I know, as a Democrat, I am far out-numbered; however, Texas is a huge state, and believe me when I say that Perry does NOT speak for the entire state (just as Jindal doesn't speak for all of LA).
As Jenni B said, he only scraped by with barely 40% of the vote for governor. Yes, we are a state with tons of closed-minded conservative nutcases, but as a friend of mine said when I was distraught about moving here..."There are sh*theads everywhere you go and nice people everywhere you go....try to avoid the sh*theads!" LOL Those of us in Texas who don't agree with Perry will just keeping working for politicians we can believe in to eventually bring about change.
(Thanks for letting me vent!)
If only Molly Ivins was around to echo Jenni B's Comments.

I'd add that a lot of people in the Dallas area are not that bad either... you just have to find the ones who didn't grow up here. My wife and I moved here about 4 years ago, and to this day, we are not "friends" with anyone FROM Dallas. Sure, we are friendly with everyone... but the people we hang out with and spend free time with are all transplants like us.
I'm a conservative who can't stand Perry. I didn't & won't vote for him in 2010 and this was purely a political ploy by him. BUT, I do agree with Creighton proposing HCR50. First I'm a Texan, and we know we were our own Nation. Our Treaty with the US to be annexed says nothing about allowing us to secede. We don't want to secede so back off that one. What we believe is in the Constitution, read it! I know my friends in South Louisiana believe in it, too!
By the way, I can't wait for the Tea Party in Lake Jackson, Texas tonight!
Your welcome to post a comment at any time on my blog....just no four letter words or symbols that can be considered a four letter word. I won't approve it. I do believe in Freedom of Speech!

I am almost certain that Rick Perry is stupid.
Kay Bailey better beat him. Blah!!!
As a native Texan (from the Louisiana border on the Gulf of Mexico), I appreciate Jenni B.'s comments.
However, I don't appreciate the blanket comments that are being made on this blog. I'm surprised to see so many educated people make such narrow minded observations.
Texans who want to secede are in a very small minority (the rest of the state refers to them as the crazies) and hardly any one pays attention to Perry since the real power in the Texas legislature lies with the Lieutenant Gov., David Dewhurst.
