"Cry Me a River" by Susan Boyle

Hey remember Susan Boyle, the dowdy middle-aged virgin currently taking the UK by storm after her performance on Britain's Got Talent? Well the Daily Record uncovered a recording she did for charity back in 1999...

It emerged last night that Susan, whose Britain’s Got Talent triumph has made her an instant superstar, is being lined up for an appearance
on the Oprah Winfrey show which would give her the chance of a number one album in the US.

But the Record can reveal she made her first recording back in 1999, when she sang blues ballad Cry Me A River for a charity CD.

Only 1000 copies of the disc were ever produced, but we’ve got hold of the long-forgotten recording.

Here it is, and it's beautiful...

Thanks for tipping me to this Martha!

Wow. One of my observations on her BGT performance was the piece she sang had a very limited vocal range. Hearing this, limited vocal range is clearly NOT a problem for her! I could easily listen to her sing all day.

I agree with crispy. The song she chose for her debut on the talent show was an immensely canny contribution in her success. It's a gorgeous piece of music; it let her demonstrate power and purity, and it meshed with the personal story she was bringing to the stage.

But, except for the one climb to a high note, it left unanswered questions about her range and control.

Her "Cry Me a River" answers those questions. This woman is marvelous, and she's here to stay.
