Glenn Beck is positively deranged

Over the last few days I'd seen the video clip of Shepard Smith mocking Glenn Beck's sanity on Fox News, but I'd no clue what exactly took place on Beck's show to provoke Smith to make fun of him and, by proxy, the network he works for. Now, there's plenty to mock and ridicule about Glenn Beck, but there was something specific that took place on Beck's show last Friday that he was referring to specifically. So I finally got around to searching for clips from Beck's show that day on YouTube earlier, and boy oh boy are they just, well, insane.

Beck used his show that day for the unveiling of his "912" project, a thinly veiled "the commies are taking over America and we've got to stop them" rally dominated by the themes "you are not alone" and "we surround them." It's truly bonkers. I mean, I watched just this first clip, the intro to the show, and found myself just mesmerized with my jaw agape that what I was seeing wasn't something being aired on a public access television show, or a homemade video made by some random nutjob and posted to YouTube...this aired on Fox Fucking News for Christ's sake! A major American cable network is giving airtime to a full blown living incarnation of Howard Beale from Network. It's something you almost have to see to believe...

You might ask yourself, "how can Fox allow this sort of stuff to air on their network?" Bill O'Reilly summed it up in an interview he did with Dennis Miller later after Miller mocked Beck as well..."Hey, he gets huge ratings."

Fox News is UBS from Network. It's official.

Holy flaming turds, Batman!

Glen Beck seems crazy to you and me - but all he is doing is playing a televangelist about politics instead of god. Its not surprising that this would play huge on fox news - folks can tune in to get their daily sermon from Glen now, and then go down to church on sunday. how perfect.

there is something to be said for faith and belief, in some higher cause other than day-to-day masturbation, but the problem with this is that it contains no rational thought, just pure emotion. And on a purported NEWS channel nonetheless...That is truly scary indeed

And really, I thought we were done exploiting that fateful day in september - I thought that retoric lost in the election this previous november. I'm not saying we should ever forget it - but we shouldn't exploit it like this....

I wish that I could laugh at this, but seriously, it sounds like he's calling for an armed revolt against our big bad liberal government. The "we surround them" comes from the red/blue map that makes it seem like most of the country is red...and in terms of land mass, maybe it is. But in terms of population it ain't even close. Funny how conservatives only love America when their guys are running it. Why do conservatives hate America?

Tim J @ Balloon Juice summed up Beck's form of nuttery quite well.

I’ve become jaded about wingnuttia. Yeah, Erick Erickon’s an idiot, but even this kind of thing is starting to bore me. Secret conspiracies between capitalists and communists to impose a one-world government? Now that’s something I can get excited about.

this is scary stuff, what's even more scary is, I live in Texas and people here believe that shit.

He is a douche bag on steroids. That is why he cries so easily.

beck wouldn't have said "the answers have never come from government..." during the bush administration. its amazing how they change their tune so quickly.
