Depression-era cooking with Clara

Well, I've been waiting to see exactly when the old world depression of the 1930s would fully converge with the current almost depression of the present, and here I think I've finally found it, the point where those two very different but eerily similar worlds converge...a 93 year-old woman who lived through the last depression posting cooking video on YouTube to explain how to survive the coming one. Clara, the great-grandmotherly star of the series, is an absolute delight, and her simple recipes look both hearty and edible. This is one in a series...

First of all, I have to agree That lady is wonderful. But I couldn't help but think that she could be Al Pacinos mom/grandma. I was waiting for her to yell "WHOOO AHHH!" when the food was ready.

This woman maybe sweet but the menu should be, roasted ally cat, cooked on a spit over a fire barrel, or maybe one of them nutria water rats if you live in the bayou, a side salad of dandelion greens and grass, with a loaf of moldy bread stolen from a duck! All this depression talk is Bull Shit. American can't fathom a depression. And how are they going to get these recipes off youtube when their electricity gets cut off and they have to trade their computer for food!

My only beef (um, ha?) is that she didn't salt either the lentil/rice mix or the steak before or during cooking. It probably would have done wonders for the soup!
