"Seafood City, 1826 North Broad"

Yesterday my friend Alex posted a clip of a McKenzie's bakery commercial from back home and it got me feeling nostalgic, as I'm oft to do, so I started digging around on YouTube for old New Orleans local business commercials. It was then that I ran across what may be the holy grail of hilariously bad New Orleans local business television commercials, the ones run in the 70s and 80s by the fine folks at Seafood City. Even if you're not from the area, I think you'll enjoy this...

This clip is excerpted from what appears to be a full program on New Orleans local business commercials. If anyone recognizes it and knows where I might view the entire thing, I'd be highly interested. So pass along any info if you have it...I'd be greatly appreciative.

the presenter is ronnie virgets. my guess is that is a wyes-tv production. the frankie and johnnie special man was a great one as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI7jC57GuZM&feature=related

That whole series of WYES stuff is really great. It covers a wide variety of NOLA subjects. Peggy Laborde seems to be the producer of most of them and is often doing the voice over.

Is Seafood City still there? I am looking for a summer vacation destination and I think it going to be a road trip to New Orleans!

@anon...nah, they shut down a few years back. unless of course, they've been revived and i just don't know about it, but i doubt that's the case.

Dude,

I remember the this commercial and the 'Rosenburg's' commercials when I was young. Those used to play on WWL and the old independent New Orleans Channel 26 all of the time in the 80's.

This url is not of the commercial, but it is the address of the Rosenburg's store in N.O. Probably one of the most recognizable addresses to the locals.

Rosenburg's...I live at #1825 another street, not Tulane, but just about every time I call a cab or give my address, I get the jingle.

You just made me zip back in time with your mention of McKenzie's. The millions of Black-out cakes that my family bought over the years, I have yet to this day had a cake as good. Gawd, I miss McKenzie's :(

I remember the commercials where the guys would be dressed in tuxedos stirring the crawfish pots.

Besides my own home, 1826 N. Broad and 1825 "Tooooolane" are the only addresses I remember from 20+ years in NO. Hmmmm.
