Drugged out kids heading home from the dentist's office are all the rage on the Internet these days

The video below has been sort of burning up the Internet over the last 48 hours or so. I've seen it posted EVERYWHERE and it's been forwarded to me a number of times. However, I've been hesitant to post it, even though it is kinda-sorta funny, mainly because there's something about it that disturbs me, an unsettling feeling stemming from knowing that someone videotaped their kid in this state and decided to post it on the Internet. I mean, I understand maybe making a video and showing it to Grandma and Uncle Pete at the the next Sunday dinner so that they can get a big round of laughs over it, but there's just something about sticking it on Youtube that disturbs me, and honestly, it takes a lot to do that. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I feel it's crossing some sort of line. Or maybe, for once, I'm being old-fashioned and am just not "getting it." Whatever, you decide...

And based solely on the t-shirt that the kid's wearing, I'm guessing that this took place in Florida, because then it all makes perfect sense to me if that's the case.

No, you're right in thinking there's something wrong with this.

Would the kid have wanted this posted for anyone in the world to watch? I doubt it.

But I'm not sure if that matters. It's more an issue of ethics than laws.

Disturbing, creepy, and wrong. Just wrong. I might pimp my college roommate for a few laughs, but never, ever would I do this to my child. Never.

When i got my wisdom teeth out, i tried telling my dad on the ride home that i was going to try out for a marlon brando sound-a-like contest, and i was convinced i could win

I wonder if dad will think it's funny in a few years when the kid comes in loaded on his ass. This is just poor taste.

I had my wisdon teeth out when I was in Florida. I was 16. I remember visual hallucinations on the way home -- I saw Amish-style horses and carriages on US 41. I was all fucked up (there were no Amish people on the Interstate). Probably very unethical to publish a video of a person (of any age, but especially a minor child) who is rendered vulnerable (and who has their judgment and behavior impaired) because of medication from a medical procedure.

I think it is the overly joyful humor in the dad's voice that is the weirdest for me. It is like he is egging the kid on- pimping him as was mentioned.

I wouldn't do that to my child and CB I think you are spot on here.

Not a good thing to do.

Very disturbing. Instead of comforting the child and assuring him that everything is going to be okay, he is laughing at him.

It's not funny. I'm sorry I watched it.

I think it's kinda funny, but then again my childhood was kinda like this - my dad was always playing mind games on me. Fortunately, he only had a still camera to document the results!

Whoa! When kids get anaesthetic dentistry, the parents are warned to watch them carefully and be there to assure them that everything is okay. This means tuck them in, keep them warm and feeling safe. Not this crap! Unfortunately for this little boy, you do not get to choose your parents.

I was amused by it, but I came from a loving family and had a safe upbringing. We still laugh about each other's anesthesia stories: my brother beckoning me closer to whisper for a bucket to puke in (but asking too late). Me falling out of the dentist's chair from a nitrous OD. Now that I think about it, however... I am also agreeing this video is disturbing somehow.

when i had my wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist made sure to give me a huge dose of oxygen before i left his office...totally effed up the buzz

that gas was the best experience of my life

While sort of funny, it wasn't anything I would do to my child. Tell funny stories, sure everyone does that especially to a new boyfriend. "God mom I can't believe you told X I did that!!!!" But film her bombed out of her head on dental gas, no way, Beyond the pale and certainly going to come back and haunt old laughing dad in a few years.

I had to turn this off. Maybe you tape this so that if there were any problems later you would have documented the event. But posting it is beyond inappropriate.

I thought the video was hilarious and there are far worse dads in the county than this guy.
