Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger interviewed by Katie Couric on 60 Minutes

All hail Sully. Again. He speaks! Here it is in case you missed it...

There are two other segments that complete the Sully/"Miracle on the Hudson" 60 Minutes episode. An interview with the rest of the flight's crew that can be viewed here, and a tear-jerking reunion between Sully and his crew with a few of the flight's passengers here. I defy anyone to watch the last part and not at least come close to crying.

In regards to this interview, my friend Lindsay suggested that a raving egomaniacal, cracked out on fame and adoration Sully character would make for an awesome centerpiece to build a sketch comedy skit around. Lorne Michaels should book the guy who played the dad in Juno right now just so he can play Sully in the skit on SNL. Seriously. Hurry up before MadTV does it.

But in all seriousness, I just...I...I love this fucking guy. He is a man who seems sent from some other the place to teach us all something about ourselves and what we should all strive to be, both as individuals and as a nation. He is a man, the man, for this moment in time. God bless him.

He is one of a rare breed. An honest to god hero. What my dad used to call a " righteous man ".

i checked the cabin of the flight i was on, and he wasn't the pilot, which scared me.

on a serious side, i've actually flown that flight with that crew before... i don't remember the pilot's name, but, i reconised the crew from the cabins.

he does make you want to be a bit of a better person, though...

Wow. That guy is not scared of anything or anybody. Heroes are hard to come by. He is one. I seriously doubt that there are any steroid or tax issues involved with Sully. He does it right, right down the line. Wow.

I think we should erect a statue of Sully in Washington, D.C. put his face on a postage stamp, and make his birthday a federal holiday. Seriously, when that plane first went down (with no other details from the news other than a plane down in the Hudson) I thought everyone on board was dead. It was unspeakably awesome just to have some good news about the safety of all the people on board as opposed to more bad news of wars, deaths, and more bad news about the GOP's economic depression.

Katie Couric is a fucking terrible interviewer. She was clearly totally clueless on what to ask Sully. And god there were some cringingly bad questions in there.

Hey Crispy, just what would you have asked?
I think Katie did a great job, asked thoughtful questions and got some interesting answers. It was a very well put together piece.

I loved his answer to the "did you pray?" question.

All hail Sully!

I was out of the country when it happened - on safari - had no idea it occurred until I was back in the states at my office a week later. What an incredible story. I sobbed through all three segments (thanks for posting each) as it reminded me of being in NYC on 9/11/01 and yet this time there is such a wonderful ending. Sully is utterly amazing as is his crew.
