I am such a big ole p*#$y

I was watching the Olympic Trials on the USA network tonight and this commercial came on during a break and I literally began sobbing like a baby while watching it.

After I found the clip of the commercial on Youtube I found this extended story about Derek Redmond and the injury. It also packs quite an emotional wallop, in my humble opinion.

I also found a 2007 article from a UK newspaper on the event.

Anyone who's ever popped a hamstring before, and I have, can attest to the fact that it's one of the more painful and crippling injuries that an athlete can suffer. I doubt that I would have gotten up and finished like Redmond did.

DAMN you! I haven't welled up like that from a commercial since the old Kodak commercials (before they got sooooooooooooo cheesey). What an inspiration.

I guess I'm a big p*#$y, too! Thanks for finding that mini-doc clip to round out the coverage.

I remember watching this live. Right up there with Dan Jansen in terms of great sports clips.

It's when the Dad goes out to help him - that's when I lose it. Only a kid's old man can help shore up that kind of massive embarrassment. That's what's so painful; not just the injury.

Cool site, I'll be back.
Cheers,
